EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RESOURCE DEPENDENCE AND GROWTH IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN
Abstract
Economic progress is a key focus of any government due to it spill-over effect to any economy that required growth. Resources can be viewed has been positive or negative factors in stimulating economic growth. Currently, it has been proven that nations can diversify their economy rather than basing it on human capital and capital formation. Hence, this study examines resource dependence and growth nexus for Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) countries. The study employed panel regression method and the data set span over 1996-2021 around the SSA. The study found that the human capital variable, secondary school enrolment rate has a positive impact on per capita income. Education is a key determinant of human capital development in any country. SSA countries need to as a matter of urgency look at investments in education in the sub-region. Beyond that, measures need to be put in place to monitor the disbursement of such investments in order to ensure that it serves the purpose of growth
